Waste collection services in Lewisham are beginning to change. Last year we carried out a consultation process across the entire borough seeking the opinions of residents called ‘Let’s Talk Rubbish’. For those that took part and want to see the results, please click on the following link: http://goo.gl/wA6Rl6
Following on from that consultation process, we are now implementing a brand new garden waste service. This will be a weekly subscription service using 240 litre brown wheeled bins and collections will start in June 2016. At the present time we are taking orders for the service which starts at an introductory price of £45 for collections between June 2016 and 31 March 2017. When your subscription ends you can choose whether or not to renew it for the full cost of £60.
The brown bin can be used to collect grass, leaves, flowers, twigs, weeds, fallen fruit and hedge trimmings but NOT for Japanese Knotweed or any other invasive species. Gardening with a brown bin will be made much easier as this can be pulled around as you prune shrubbery, cut back trees, clear leaves and cut grass. Once full, all you need to do is leave the bin on the pavement outside your property and return it as soon as possible to your property for safe keeping.
Instructions on what goes into the bin can be found on the lid to ensure we get exactly the right materials without any contamination. To make everyone in the borough aware of the service, we’ve put posters up in the libraries and left postcards, our trucks are also advertising the service as well as JC Decaux ads in the street all over the borough. For those who like the idea of having your garden waste collected from your doorstep without having to take trips to our Reuse and Recycling Centre, please click on the following link for full details on how to sign up: http://goo.gl/8Yv1FM
