Every so often we’ll put up other posts from our colleagues in the Council who’s work isn’t necessarily familiar to everyone. This post looks at the work of our colleagues in the Trading Standards department.
From 1 October it became illegal to sell tobacco from vending machines to anyone, regardless of their age. To comply with the new law business will have to make sure that any vending machine on their premises cannot be used by the public to buy cigarettes or any other tobacco product. Also, all tobacco adverts on the machine will need to be removed or securely covered up so that they are no longer visible. Trading standards has notified local premises of these requirements and will be following up with a programme of visits to check compliance.
